A case of brucellosis displaying Parkinsonian-like tremor.

چکیده
We report a rare case of brucellosis with Parkinsonian-like tremor and simple partial motor seizure. This patient worked as a sheep butcher and the sheep were imported from brucellosis-endemic areas. He presented with classical manifestations of brucellosis; infection was confirmed using the Rose Bengal Plate and Standard Tube Agglutination tests. The patient also suffered from headache, partial seizures, changes of personality and static tremor of both upper limbs. After anti-infection therapy, but without the use of anti-Parkinson drugs, the patient fully recovered and remained free of Parkinsonian-like tremor. Brucellosis can present with atypical symptoms, clinicians should widen their diagnostic view of brucella infection.

On the Origin of Tremor in Parkinson’s Disease
The exact origin of tremor in Parkinson's disease remains unknown. We explain why the existing data converge on the basal ganglia-thalamo-cortical loop as a tremor generator and consider a conductance-based model of subthalamo-pallidal circuits embedded into a simplified representation of the basal ganglia-thalamo-cortical circuit to investigate the dynamics of this loop. We show how variation ...
متن کاملTemporal evolution of oscillations and synchrony in GPi/muscle pairs in Parkinson's disease.
Both standard spectral analysis and time-dependent phase correlation techniques were applied to 27 pairs of tremor-related single units in the globus pallidus internus (GPi) and EMG of patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) undergoing stereotactic neurosurgery. Over long time-scales (approximately 60 s), GPi tremor-related units were statistically coherent with restricted regions of the periphe...
متن کاملClinical Differentiation of Essential Tremor and Parkinson’s Disease
We present clinical features and tremor characterization in a patient with Parkinson's disease (PD) as well as in two cases of essential tremor (ET) with some parkinsonian features but no evidence of dopaminergic terminal loss on (123)I-FP-CIT Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT). Relatively slow frequency rest tremor and bilateral upper extremity bradykinesia without decrementing...

متن کاملCoarse Tremor as the Only Sign of Perinatal Hemorrhagic Stroke: A Case Report
Background: Tremor which is the most common abnormal movement in the neonatal period might be a benign condition or the result of pathologic events and is divided into two subtypes, namely fine tremor and coarse tremor. Fine tremor is usually benign and results from some metabolic disturbance, such as hypoglycemia. On the other hand, coarse tremor is an indicator of brain insult and should be r...
